There are the following features, with projected state by the time of the
release:
- LLAP - first version that is production ready, with some missing
features (e.g. ACID support).
- HBase metastore - first version, at alpha stage, i.e. might not be
production ready.
- Beeline-based CLI replacement.
- Vastly improved vectorized operators for map join, RS, GBY.
- CBO improvements to enable it on more queries and replicate a lot of
hive optimizers into CBO, CBO perf improvements.
- New versions of Calcite, Log4j, Parquet, Tez, Thrift, ?..
- Lots of commits marked as “Spark Branch”, not sure what these are.
- Variety of other improvements for perf and bugfixes (that probably
should be backported, I might do a bulk JIRA comment).
- CBO return path (not sure of the status yet), avoiding multiple
conversions between CBO and Hive.
- Removal of Hadoop1 and deprecation of MR (pending) :)
- Maybe something I have missed.
