Sergio Peña commented on HIVE-9396: ----------------------------------- [~jdere] The Calendar.add() method accepts only INT data types. Smaller data types can be cast. The BITINT (long) data type can be cast only if the value is less than Int.MAX_VALUE. Is this desired? Do we want to display NULL if a BIGINT value is bigger and it cannot be cast to INT? > date_add()/date_sub() should allow tinyint/smallint/bigint arguments in > addition to int > --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > > Key: HIVE-9396 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-9396 > Project: Hive > Issue Type: Bug > Components: UDF > Reporter: Jason Dere > Assignee: Sergio Peña > > {noformat} > hive> select c1, date_add('1985-01-01', c1) from short1; > FAILED: SemanticException [Error 10014]: Line 1:11 Wrong arguments 'c1': > DATE_ADD() only takes INT types as second argument, got SHORT > {noformat} > We should allow date_add()/date_sub() to take any integral type for the 2nd > argument, rather than just int. -- This message was sent by Atlassian JIRA (v6.3.4#6332)
