Hi devs,

Here's a TL;DR summary of today's release sync. See the wiki page [1] for
more details.

   - Breaking changes
      - *All breaking changes* are expected to complete by *Sep 30*. For
anything that may not finish on-time, please reach out to the release
      managers.
      - Current status: Most are in good progress and will be completed
      this week
      - Blocker: State of dropping Java 8 support is unclear.
   - The release managers have started working on the release announcement
for the preview version, and will soon open a PR for further collecting
   contents.
   - A dry-run for building the preview release has been conducted.
   - We plan to support Kafka connectors in 2.0-preview, a few more
commonly used connectors in 2.0.0, and 80% of first-party connectors in the
following year. A more concrete plan and list is on the way.
   - Due to public holidays in China, *there won't be a release sync next
   week (Oct 2).*

Best,

Xintong
