Yeah constructor does get called, I have made test by adding an alert inside constructor. VerticalColumnLayout is from here /Users/dhwanishah/Documents/FlexSDKs/FlexJS0.7.0/frameworks/projects/HTML/src/main/flex/org/apache/flex/html/beads/layouts
