I didn't make the connection that I could easily test an SDK before. I think what would help is making an announcement like this on the list and maybe some social networks before each release (or more frequently), adding a "Show Development builds" checkbox in the installer so we know this is possible and maybe making a note or second screen in the installer specifically on how to test a new SDK (same idea as this announcement).
