I figured it out. I had imported the frameworks/projects/textLayout project into FB. That resulted in an empty 'src' directory being created. Looks like the build got confused and was looking for the manifest.xml inside the src directory (I am guessing it is a default path set somewhere)
I deleted the empty src directory and the build now passes. Alex, thanks for your time.
