For rapid prototyping try to consider using FlashBuilder 4.6 with "Design View" or Flash Catalyst CS5.5 to generate your visual SkinnableContainers or SkinnableComponents. Upgrading your visual prototype to Apache Flex 4.10 can be done thereafter. At least, this is how I do it in my day to day practice as Flex Interaction Designer.
