I'd suggest we start in Shanghai because there are more developers in Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen, and I have more resources here in Shanghai.
I've asked some friends about the site fees. Normally, the price for a meeting room for 200 people is about ¥10,000-15,000 (USD $ 1500-2000) half-day. A friend from Microsoft offered a free meeting room with 100 seats in 漕河泾. Or we could consider conference rooms inside universities. For example, the price of a 250-seat room in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which was the university I graduated from, is about ¥1,200 (USD $170) half day. This could save much money and more students can join the event. But the location is in 闵行 so it may be a little remote. *Which one do you prefer?* Other costs include providing drinking water and printed stickers or posters. I think the overall budget could be under ¥2000 (USD $300). So we could raise the money by ourselves and it could work even without sponsorship. About the topic, I'm thinking of keynotes from the PPMC and speeches from call-for-speakers, and lightning talks, whose durations are about 20-30min, 15-20min, and 5-10min. Here are some ideas of keynote topics: 1. Community and the Apache Way 2. ECharts products and what you can do with it 3. Algorithm and performance insights with ECharts 4. Cross-platform solution 5. 3D rendering with ECharts GL 6. How to make ECharts extensions Everyone, please give advice with your ideas!
