There seems to be some interest in switching cordova-android to use AndroidX by default, which would basically replace cordova-plugin-androidx by Dave Allen. This would obviously be a major, breaking change.
Some plugins seem to be already using AndroidX, some other plugins seem to be holding back. I think we should discuss this on GitHub, not sure if it should be in apache/cordova or apache/cordova-android.
