We have four beginner/getting started pages, with redundant information: https://community.apache.org/contributors/ https://community.apache.org/newcomers/ https://community.apache.org/gettingStarted/101.html https://community.apache.org/newbiefaq.html
The 'gettingStarted' directory is otherwise empty. It's also our only camelCaps directory. The content in the 101.html page is kinda for new contributors, with a little "finding your way around" thrown in. /newcomers/ is almost entirely links to other places. And, here too, there's just that one file in that directory. Proposal: /newcomers is for people new to the foundation, trying to figure out what it's all about. /gettingStarted/101.html will redirect there, and the content from these three pages that's geared to that audience will live at /newcomers . This is good for press, users, and others who want to know their way around, but haven't moved to actual contributions yet. The /gettingStarted/ directory will go away. Content that is for people who are actually trying to *contribute* to a project will go to the /contributors page. The unfortunately named newbiefaq contains content in both of the above categories. I propose splitting it between those two categories as appropriate, and then redirecting /newbiefaq.html to /newcomers Unless there are objections, that's what I'll be working on next. Thoughts/advice/objections solicited. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@community.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@community.apache.org
