All, Apologies if this is not the right forum for this question/request! I was motivated by Nithya Ruff's talk at ApacheCon to propose an office of open source practice (or similar name) at my 7,000 person non-for-profit corporation. The idea of the office would be a centralized unit that interacts with many orgs within the corporation and outside of the corporation in a unified way to foster open source devs, code and communities. Would people be willing to share their experiences with me on this topic, perhaps offline? Which big name companies have such an office? (Or, perhaps shorter, which don't?) How has it been useful or did it go up in flames? Recommendations for design/areas of responsibility/metrics for success, etc.
Finally, out of respect for the "members only" point of this list, please let me know if I'm allowed to share your response off list with my mgmt. If this isn't the right forum for this, please recommend alternatives. Thank you.
