Hello. Given 1. the next release cannot support Java 6 for technical reasons, 2. information provided by Oracle[1], I don't think that we should go through a release that supports Java 7 just because there is free support for another few months.
Indeed, if an application still requires Java 7, it is not realistic to assume that its developers would want to modify it in order to use new features provided by [RNG]. Since we want to (and have to before next July) upgrade to Java 8 just after that release, having an official release stuck at Java 7 in the meantime, could entail an unwanted mess in case we'd need to provide a point release.
