should read "five year old issue..."

Seems to be intentional and the case since 2.4. There is already a five year only issue complaining about this: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/IO-350

Build works fine with Java 1.7 and 1.8 on Windows 10. Artifacts and site
look good.

There is something strange in the OSGi meta data: The Export-Package
header obviously lists wrong version numbers for some of the packages.
For about half of the packages the version is set to "1.4.9999", for the
others it is the correct version "2.6". This will probably render the
artifact useless as an OSGi bundle.

Any idea what could cause such a strange versioning? I haven't seen this
before.

I just checked with version 2.5, and here the same version numbers show
up in the manifest.

So +1

Hello,

we have fixed quite a few bugs and added some nice new features since Apache Commons IO 2.5 was released, so I would like to release Apache Commons IO 2.6 based on RC3.

The changes between RC1 and RC2 are:
- Worked on the design of the ByteOrderParser class
- Fixed IO-546
- Fixed IO-553

The changes between RC2 and RC3 are:
- RC2 contained cobertura instrumented class files (thanks to Oliver Heger to catching this one!)

Commons IO 2.6 RC3 is available for review here: https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/commons/io/commons-io-2.6-RC3 (svn revision 22482)
