I understand [1] to indicate that the Maven guys to prepare support
for multi release jars.
As far as I know, that stuff hasn't been released yet, and we don't
know what will be required
to use it. (New maven-jar-plugin? Maven? JDK9 for build?)

Without a stable Maven release that is intended to support these
things, I'd oppose us supporting
them.
