I vaguely remember asking that question some years ago and considering adding this. I don't see any technical reason why it could not. The InstanceKeyDataSources do. I suspect the historical reason is simply that Tomcat does not require it, since its JNDI setup uses the BasicDataSourceFactory to source instances.
