Hi all, Following an initial idea of Gary Gregory, I have written a small proposal regarding the merge of Launcher and Exec.
If this idea gains enough momentum I shall devise a plan and continue with the rest of the required work. Please comment and vote for merge +1 or no merge -1. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal to merge two existing Commons projects: Exec and Launcher [Rationale] The Commons ecosystem thrives with concise, well defined, fast growing and dynamic sub projects. The person-hours and interest the community devotes to each single project can have a direct impact on the software and documentation quality that each project yields. With this in mind it is in the interest of all to achieve a perfect balance between cohesion and identity for each sub project within Commons. Merging Exec and Launcher will highly benefit both code bases and in turn, its users. [Reasons to merge] - Very similar objectives, features and aims - Simplification of the overall Commons project by reducing the number of specific projects without compromising feature delivery - The merged project will probably involve and capture attention of new contributors - Code share and total lines of code reduction - General update of both project’s source code [Reasons not to merge] - Broadening the focus of each project - The actual work of planning the merge, merging and documenting imply person-hours that could be applied to more functional tasks ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regard, Ricardo Espírito Santo
