It's always not the same case (really). The crux of the example was about (my) misconception about what takes time in a JVM. In CM, there are tons of unneeded (from your point-of-view) copying because in most cases, it was deemed worth in order to ensure the integrity of the subsequent processing. And we also noticed that in the "usual" (the developers' use-cases), it did not matter much.
