Sorry I forgot about the ssh agent compat issue with earlier versions of m2. I had to upgrade to 2.2.1 to get ssh deploys to work.
Of course, you could always just tar the site, scp it and unpack it on people directly. If you do that, remember to chmod g+w the files.
