I think there needs to be a decision as to whether 2.x is a live line of 
activity.  If it is then there needs to be a release so that people can switch 
to it.  If there is no enthusiasm for a 2.x release and switching to it as the 
supported line, then features like this need to be retrofitted to the 1.x line 
and perhaps a 1.2 issued with all the new stuff.
