Hi, The 4.4.1 release tag was on a different branch not on 4.4 branch and 4.4.2 is following the same path. Note, in all cases there is divergence between 4.4 branch, the 4.4.1-RC branch that has the 4.4.1 tag and now with 4.4.2-RC branch which probably will have the 4.4.2 tag in future. I know enough git to get around but this breaks previous conventions, introduces non-linear histories in release/maintenance branches and not to mention there is (small) code divergence between 4.4.x-RC branches, the 4.4.1 tag, 4.4 release/maintenance branch.
This makes it hard for people who are trying to backport changes to maintenance branch. I may be wrong at how I’m looking at this workflow, maybe this is useful, if so how? I’m here to learn, no flames. I just hope we avoid such a workflow for 4.5.0 release. So, should we revert back to our old ways, keep tags on release branches or improve something. Thanks.
