What I'm missing is network infrastructure, does your project work without
a vlan capable switch?

Bringing an advanced zone up its no issue. I map management, public and
guest to different host-only interfaces within virtualbox.

I haven't tested anything around vlan usage. I have forced virtualbox to
use the Am79C973 adapter as it does not strip the vlan tags unlike the
intel ones.
