Sorry for the repeated posts, but I've made some more progress.  If I convert 
the field to the String data type and pass the same value ("819.08"), I get the 
same error.  If I remove the period character "." and just pass "819", it works 
fine.  Any thoughts?  Does the period need to be encoded somehow in the XML?
