Stefan, this sounds like a great project for GSoC. I'd be happy to
co-mentor it with you. Please go ahead and file the JIRAs and add it to the
doc.

At the end of the month I will consolidate the ideas and validate it with
the community and we can start adding the GSoC tags to the selected ones.
