Dear Cassandra community,

Recently I have reported [CASSANDRA-15623](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-15623) and submitted a patch for it, please see the ticket for more details. The patch has been reviewed and approved for merging into trunk. However, now there is a need to decide whether this fix should be backported to the previous stable releases of Cassandra.

Dinesh Joshi has expressed (a slight concern)[https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-15623#comment-17077670] about it, since the fix implies a behavioral change.

I personally believe the issue to have been a bug and bugs, IMO, are to be fixed. On the other hand, this bug is unlikely to be considered *critical*, so the final decision will be a trade-off between keeping the old behavior and ensuring the expected behavior.

Would the community be so kind to help us to make a decision?

Jacob Becker
