Or, more generally, the API could become:
- Object getElementState(Schema);
- Object readElement(Object state, ...)
This style already used to permit once-per-record lookups with getRecordState,
so adding it to permit once-per-array and once-per-map lookups would be
consistent. Ideally we might add a state parameter to the read() and write()
methods, so that a pre-computed state tree could be walked in parallel to the
schema where all lookups would be pre-computed.
