Hi AsterixDB Team My name is Menna Hassan, and I am writing to express my strong interest in the "Top K Nearest Queries Support" idea to work on for GSoC 2026.
I have spent the last few days getting my development environment ready and wanted to update you on my progress :) I have successfully built the AsterixDB master branch from source using Maven in an Ubuntu VM . I’ve deployed a local sample cluster and used the SQL++ dashboard to run basic spatial queries to understand how the system handles coordinate data. For now I am navigating the codebase in IntelliJ . Since I am currently familiarizing myself with the system's internal design, I would welcome any suggestions on specific areas of the documentation or codebase I should prioritize to better understand the current search logic :) Best regards, Menna Hassan
