I'm successfully using {{PYARROW_CMAKE_OPTIONS='-DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release'}}
in the manylinux1 builds to get release builds. Passing that through
commandline option from {{bdist_wheel}} to the actually command
({{build_ext}}?) seemed rather hard.
