That's wonderful. Thanks for your efforts getting this done.

Hi all,
Obviously I didn't manage to look through bugzilla last weekend, my
family had different plans (and I thank them).
One thing I want to do is giving a recent OpenJDK8 snapshot a try so Ant
1.8.3's javac would support building for 1.8/8 when that gets released.
Given our current release cycle Java8 may be there before we release the
predecessor of 1.8.3.
Detecting Java8 may be tricky as we usually rely on new classes and I'm
not sure we can rely on class names for Java8 being carved into stone
already.
I only see three bugzilla issues with target 1.8.3 that are not
resolved.
44786 needs to be verified. It may be OK to mark it fixed and let
people reopen it if the new attribute doesn't help.
50788 opened by myself, so I should better deal with it.
52076 just needs docs, code is there, I'll see to it.
There are more bugs we could address but then again if anybody wants to
work on them nobody will stop us from doing more frequent releases.
Currently I plan to assemble the release in about two weeks. Does that
sound reasonable?

I don't have Java 1.4 around anymore and wouldn't really know where
to obtain one.

Yes, saw that, thank you.
A committer needs to be the one to do release builds I guess.
Yes, anything else would be too difficult (tagging, signing of artifacts
and all that).
(I hope this will be the last Ant release running on such an ancient VM...)
Just call for a vote to drop 1.4 support after the release. If it
passes soon enough we can even announce it will be the last release
supporting 1.4.
