They have recently (after an inspired prayer by Geir Magnusson Jr. on behalf of the Apache Harmony project) made the compiler available as a standalone jar. It is currently available at http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/M20060609-1217/ecj.jar . That may not be the latest even, but you get the idea. Then all you have to do is set build.compiler to "org.eclipse.jdt.core.JDTCompilerAdapter".
