AFAIK there is no proposed schedule for 1.7 right now. Some time ago, it was proposed for Q2/Q3 2005.
However, IMHO there is no need for a nippy new release. There are some major changes in the trunk (ResourceCollection, ...) and I think it's a good idea to give them some more time for integration and experience.
