We had the discussion once about spelled/spelt IIRC.
Ant is one of the very few open source projects I know where the number of US committers is vastly outnumbered by people coming from other countries. AFAIU Australians are closer to British spelling and the French/Dutch/German[1] among us will probably have learnt British spelling in school (as if I'd recall what I've learnt there).
Nowadays I try and use phrases that arent too divergent across locales, the "misspelt is misspelled" debacle showed why. Notice that the new unknown task diagnostics does *not* use either spelling.
