It may be easier to wait a bit for the next beta, though that depends on the dotnet package's release schedule.
No schedule yet. I'd love to turn this into an Ant community project or split from Ant completely before going ahead. It depends on the feel of the rest of the Ant crew towards such an esoteric area.
I think there is a strong argument for making it a sub module, just so you can evolve it at a different rate.
BTW, have you looked into WiX at any point in time? I'm uncertain whether I really have really gotten the task abstractions correctly reflect the way the tool would get used.
