Hi Erik,
I was doing my first full release of ant. I was just concerned that some people might try starting their download right after the announcement. I found out that the mirroring took place within the next 8 or 9 hours after the actual release. I will indicate http://ant.apache.org/bindownload.cgi next time I do a release,
Cheers,
Antoine

Hi,
ant 1.6.0 is released !!!
The version will hopefully soon be available from all mirrors.
If you encounter difficulties doing the download, select www.apache.org/dist in the combo box of the download page, and then hit the <change> button.
Antoine,
would it be possible to just put the new packages on www.apache.org/dist/
and wait ~ 24h before announcing the new release so that all the mirrors could
pick up the new stuff and so that the above 'trick' could be omitted safely?
Would this interfere with Ant's release flow or the release manger's schedule?
Or did you encounter any problems with mirrors being out-of-date or with the
mirroring system in general?
IMHO, a link to http://ant.apache.org/bindownload.cgi should be sufficient and
given the enormous amount of work which was done to bring our mirroring
system to life and to hide www.apache.org/dist/ from the public, I find it quite
counter-productive to see a description on how to circumvent the mirroring
system.
In fact, the only link in the announcement points to www.apache.org/dist/,
whereas http://ant.apache.org/bindownload.cgi isn't mentioned at all :-(
Btw, we usually try to make sure, that all mirrors update at least once a day;
you can check this by yourself at www.apache.org/mirrors/ (currently only
< 2% of all mirrors have issues in some way).
Please don't see this as a flame, I'm just trying to find out if there are any
problems we can help to fix...
Cheers, Erik
p.s.: happy new year and btw, Ant 1.6.0 rocks!
