In ant1.6beta2 and later, the former optional.jar is split into ant-nodeps.jar, ant-oro.jar, ant-weblogic.jar, ... You need to delete $ANT_HOME/lib/optional.jar which is probably left-over from ant 1.5 and you will be fine.
