One might note that this has already been tried, *and succeeded*, with SPDY and 
then HTTP 2.

HTTP 2 is faster than HTTP 1, but both Mozilla and Google are refusing to allow 
unencrypted HTTP 2 connections. Sites like http://httpvshttps.com/ 
intentionally mislead users into thinking that TLS improves connection speed, 
when actually the increased speed is from HTTP 2.
