Indeed, I completely misdiagnosed the issue. Upon further investigation it turns out that the external script is trying to set a property on a chrome object and that __exposedProps__ does not allow this. So completely normal behavior. What I can't seem to figure out is how to make it so that content can add new properties to a COW (as opposed to modifying existing properties).
