I recall getting value from these tests when bug 666446 landed. That is 
to say, these tests showed a performance regression with animated gif 
images. There was another set of tests - tscroll, iirc, that also 
showed the regression, but the tdhtml tests were easier to use in 
tracking down the problem.

It's a pretty specialized case, though...
