When distros were shipping 64-bit 3.6, it was without a JIT. Many people, including journalists, did not stop to compare 32-bit Firefox against 64-bit Firefox and conclude that 32-bit was faster. Instead, they concluded that 64-bit Chrome and 64-bit Opera were faster than 64-bit Firefox.
