Hi All,
Inspired by Shane's excellent weekly Web Coordination notes, I'm going
to try to make a habit of sending updates after the Monday afternoon
meeting as well. Full notes and updates live at at [1].
On the agenda this week was:
* Sai, our second summer intern for 2015, officially started today.
Unfortunately he wasn't able to join the meeting due to an onboarding
event, but nevertheless, welcome Sai! We look forward to working with you.
* Train 38 is deployed in production as of this afternoon.
There was a small hiccup with fxa-customs-server losing its ability to
talk to memcache [2] but otherwise things went smoothly. You can view
the change summary at [3].
* The Spring marketing campaign kicks off tomorrow.
It's lead with the release of Firefox 38.0.5. If all goes well this
will lead to increased traffic on our OAuth infrastructure, but we're
feeling comfortable with the state of the deployment. Thanks to all
involved for shipping a lot of quality features on a short time frame
for this event.
* We discussed the "basket proxy server".
This is a new service [4] that adds an OAuth-authenticated shim in front
of the existing "basket" email-marketing/newsletters service [5].
It's what will power the new email opt-in checkbox that's shipping next
train.
There remain open questions around what our long-term strategy is for
integrating with Mozilla's email marketing infrastructure. This proxy
server is intended as a short-term strategy until basket grows native
OAuth support [6], so we we need to keep iterating on the details here.
* Status updates:
** Vlad has been investigating New Relic for collecting javascript
errors on fxa-content-server; he also reports having an excellent time
at Google I/O and came away with the usual bevy of free stuff :-)
** Danny has made good progress on signing in to FxA via OpenID, in
support of our "partner11" integration effort.
** Sean has posted his work [7] on adding refresh tokens to
fxa-oauth-server, which appears on-track to ship by end of Q2.
** Zach is helping Sai get up to speed for his first week, and will soon
travel to NYC for a settings-screen hackathon with John Gruen.
Cheers,
Ryan
