When I get stuck at the Thundersoft screen, I just reboot the device in
Fastboot mode(*), then flash the base image again.
QA is currently using the full flash option ("images", not "gaia+gecko") to
avoid brokenness due to gonk weirdness. Maybe give that a try next time?

(*) either "adb reboot bootloader", or, if adb's not connecting, pop the
battery out and back in, then hold down the power and volume down buttons
