What version of the Simulator are you using? I've had one report of a
problem using the Contacts app in the Simulator (issue #400
<https://github.com/mozilla/r2d2b2g/issues/400>), but I haven't been
able to reproduce it. And the UI Tests app appears to successfully use
the Contacts API to modify the contacts database.
If you're using Simulator v2, you might try the latest preview build of
the next release:
