@roignac: How is this bug a duplicate of #44563? That bug is for auto-arranging 
desktop icons. 
 The linked bug for show in groups reported in bugzilla is 10 years old and i 
really dont think those guys will look at it.
I think this should be pushed as a request to the gnome devs again instead of 
marking it as duplicate

  Allow "Show in groups" option in Nautilus

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I would request the developers over at Canonical to add a patch to allow 
"Show in Groups" option for Nautilus file manager.
  It becomes easier to find files in groups when there are thousands of files 
in a folder. This happens especially in Music folder or the downloads folder.
  Dolphin file manager has this option . Please see the links below for the 
screenshots.

  Windows file explorer also has the feature.

  It would be great if you guys could implement something similar in
  12.04.
