I tried this on my VM, and no errors are printed when I try to add a bookmark, either with drag and drop or via the menu. And the perms on that file are:
-rw-rw-r-- 1 rocko rocko 128 Mar 2 07:35 .gtk-bookmarks I do get an error when starting nautilus, but it looks like an unrelated samba issue: Initializing nautilus-gdu extension Nautilus-Share-Message: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error No such file or directory Please ask your system administrator to enable user sharing. I also upgraded my main machine to precise, ie with a user account that already has bookmarks, and bookmarks work correctly. But when I try a new user where no bookmarks are defined, I can't add the first bookmark. If you try and drag a folder to the very bottom of the bookmarks section immediately after opening a nautilus window, it doesn't get added to the bookmarks. This also prevents newly-created users from ever adding a bookmark. If you drag a folder to the middle of the bookmarks section, it gets added, and at this point you can drag folders to the very bottom of the bookmark section (at least until you close nautilus and reopen it). Choosing 'Add Bookmark' from the often menu does nothing.
