Public bug reported:
I have a laptop with Intel Core Ultra 7 and Intel Arc Graphics. I'm using Ubuntu (include your Ubuntu version here). When I connect an external monitor via HDMI, it initially works fine. After a while of use (sometimes during video, sometimes while idle), the external monitor image freezes — it stops responding completely. The built-in laptop display continues working normally. The frozen monitor still shows the last frame/image. If I unplug the HDMI cable, the apps/windows that were on the second monitor move to the main screen and continue working fine. This seems like a graphics driver or power management issue specific to Intel Arc. Steps to reproduce: Connect HDMI monitor Use system normally (move apps, play videos, leave idle) After a while, external monitor freezes Hardware: Intel Core Ultra 7 Intel Arc Graphics (integrated GPU) Ubuntu version: (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04 LTS) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 24.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+23ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.11.0-25.25~24.04.1-generic 6.11.11 Uname: Linux 6.11.0-25-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.28.1-0ubuntu3.5 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Tue May 6 12:33:41 2025 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: noble DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Meteor Lake-P [Intel Arc Graphics] [8086:7d55] (rev 08) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Meteor Lake-P [Intel Arc Graphics] [17aa:3d0f] InstallationDate: Installed on 2025-03-14 (53 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS "Noble Numbat" - Release amd64 (20250215) MachineType: LENOVO 83DC ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 PATH=(custom, no user) SHELL=/bin/bash XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=<set> ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-6.11.0-25-generic root=/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-ubuntu--lv ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 05/20/2024 dmi.bios.release: 1.29 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: N7CN29WW dmi.board.asset.tag: NO Asset Tag dmi.board.name: LNVNB161216 dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: No DPK dmi.chassis.asset.tag: NO Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: IdeaPad Slim 5 16IMH9 dmi.ec.firmware.release: 1.29 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrN7CN29WW:bd05/20/2024:br1.29:efr1.29:svnLENOVO:pn83DC:pvrIdeaPadSlim516IMH9:rvnLENOVO:rnLNVNB161216:rvrNoDPK:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrIdeaPadSlim516IMH9:skuLENOVO_MT_83DC_BU_idea_FM_IdeaPadSlim516IMH9: dmi.product.family: IdeaPad Slim 5 16IMH9 dmi.product.name: 83DC dmi.product.sku: LENOVO_MT_83DC_BU_idea_FM_IdeaPad Slim 5 16IMH9 dmi.product.version: IdeaPad Slim 5 16IMH9 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.122-1~ubuntu0.24.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 24.2.8-1ubuntu1~24.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx N/A version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:21.1.12-1ubuntu1.3 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev N/A version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:22.0.0-1build1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20210115-1build1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.17-2build1 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug noble ubuntu wayland-session -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2110024 Title: External HDMI monitor freezes with Intel Arc Graphics (Core Ultra 7) Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I have a laptop with Intel Core Ultra 7 and Intel Arc Graphics.
