I don't know what's happening.

It all started because alacarte wouldn't work, from the terminal, or
right clicking the menu and clicking "edit menus." Root user couldn't do
it, either.

So I tried purging alacarte, restarting, and reinstalling: same problem

after reinstalling ubuntu-desktop et-al, I got the error that I'm
sending attached.

here's my what comes out in terminal when I try alacarte:
