It looks like an snap misconfiguration in the appmarmor protection around the snap. I don't think it is an error by thunderbird by itself, but the snap packaging, therefore I reported it to ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/2069966 but they asked me to report it upstream (i.e. here) as well.
