Apologies for the slow reply - this is a work machine and I need to keep
it pegged at 550 to stay in step with what the other teams are using to
build their packages.

Seeing as it's now the weekend I've rolled it back to 535 temporarily,
and I can confirm that the terminal issue has gone, so there's
definitely some interaction with the driver package at work here. I'll
have to put it back come Monday, but I can try and sneak some tests in
the evenings where possible.

Title:
[nvidia + X11] gnome terminal input lag and stutter ("MetaSyncRing: We
should never wait for a sync -- add more syncs?")

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  What happens:

  - The cursor in gnome-terminal lags behind typed input, sometimes
stuttering back and forth so characters appear, disappear, and then
appear again a fraction of a second later. It's as if the frame buffer
is occasionally replaying the last few frames.

This appears to be a close relative of

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/2059847

because this is _exactly_ how I experienced that bug, and this
behavior disappeared once the fix was released but now it has
  returned.

I'm unclear if this bug is a problem with mutter, the nvidia driver,
or some interaction between the two but they would on first glance
seem the obvious culprits given the similarity this displays to
  #2059847

  Release is Ubuntu 22.04.5
  Kernel version 6.8.0-50-generic

  potentially related packages versions

  nvidia-driver-550 550.120-0ubuntu0.22.04.1
  mutter-common 42.9-0ubuntu9
  gnome-terminal 3.44.0-1ubuntu1

Please let me know what additional info would be useful and I'll
  attempt to provide.
