Hinting is different to subpixel rendering, but both are related to antialiasing. But my pedantic comment aside, I think the only real problem here is bad UI design. No text, including the placeholder headings, should be rendered smaller than the user interface font size. Because that may make it too small to read. Similarly egregious is the use of grey text on a grey background.
