I tried updating the amdgpu firmwares from the linux-firmware package from git.kernel.org. This didn't help. The display is still garbled after it returns from power-save of the display (not the computer suspending).

There's a divider in the middle and green streaks from the right margin and the middle divider over the garbled background image. I added a picture of the garbled display as an attachment. I am able to login blindly, and removing and inserting the HDMI connector from the computer restores the image. I also have a shellscript that I can activate with a keyboard shortcut that uses xrandr to turn the output off, wait two seconds and turn it on again and that also restores the image. AMD 7840U with built in Radeon 780. I have tried increasing VRAM memory to 2 GB. I tried adding "amdgpu.sg_display=0" to the boot parameters to no avail. What can I do to help debug this problem? I have the same CPU/GPU combo in my T14s laptop, but haven't got the problem there.
