Thanks for the bug report. Please start by removing all local extensions: cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/ rm -rf extensions
and then log in again. If the problem persists after that then please tell us which processes are using the next most CPU. Also are there any apps that might be rendering constantly (like a web browser)? That could be expensive since it sounds like it's a VM. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2085356 Title: gnome-shell consumes 100% cpu while doing nothing Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Previous bug reports are on 18.04, but the problem is still there in 22.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 Package: gnome-shell 42.9-0ubuntu2.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.8.0-45.45~22.04.1-generic 6.8.12 Uname: Linux 6.8.0-45-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu82.6 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Tue Oct 22 14:51:36 2024 DisplayManager: gdm3 InstallationDate: Installed on 2023-11-16 (341 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS "Jammy Jellyfish" - Release amd64 (20230807.2) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=<set> LANG=sv_SE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash RebootRequiredPkgs: Error: path contained symlinks.
